About half of the network losses, or 200 GWh, is attributable to physical losses from power lines heating up, but some 180 GWh are used by dishonest consumers trying to find ways to get the service without paying for it.

Over the past ten years the successful work of the Elektrilevi loss prevention team has led to the amount of unauthorised consumption being more than halved. However, Elektrilevi still discovers some customers each day who can be suspected of illegal consumption of electricity.
