Important environmental considerations:

  • oil leaks during operation or following an accident can cause contamination of the soil and surface or ground water;
  • hazardous waste, mainly dismantled wooden posts, can cause pollution of the environment and visual pollution;
  • construction waste such as concrete structures, glass and ceramic insulators, and scrap metal, can cause pollution of the environment and visual pollution;
  • felled trees, cut-down brush and damaged turf and fauna, can have a general negative effect on the environment;
  • extensive fires and the major risk of fires can cause destruction of the environment and equipment;
  • direct or indirect contact with electricity can have a negative effect on the quality of life of living creatures in the vicinity of overhead lines and can cause danger to life and health hazards;
  • long-term power cuts can have a severe negative impact on the quality of life and in consequence can harm people's health, environment and property;
  • failure to consider the environmental requirements during network design and construction can have a negative effect on the environment or the quality of life;
  • the additional electricity produced to cover network losses, the company's internal consumption and the energy consumed in the company's buildings can put an increased load on the environment;
  • insufficient information about the environmental and social impact of electricity distribution can result in low awareness among customers and the general public and a negative impact on the reputation of the company.

We have devised and use preventive measures and we take precautions to eliminate or minimise all the negative environmental impacts listed here.

Positive measures in Elektrilevi's environmental management:

  • we sort and recycle waste, such as bulk materials, metal and paper waste, to reduce the use of these resources and the amount of waste deposited in landfills;
  • we publish and exchange information about the environment to raise awareness among our employees and partners and the general population about the environment.
