Elektrilevi recommends: Solar panels help reduce both footprint and electricity bills

14.03.2022

In February 2022, Elektrilevi received 1001 applications from electricity producers wishing to connect to their grid, which is 700 applications more than at the same time last year. Connecting as a micro producer, i.e. with a solar power station with a capacity of up to 15 kilowatts (kW), remains the most popular option.

“I am glad to note that the number of small producers connecting to our grid continues to increase. We receive more than 200 applications every week. This shows that people have seen the direct impact of solar power on electricity bills and that environmental awareness has continuously increased. The implementation of energy storage devices and the fact their price continues to get more affordable is definitely a big step forward in this field as well,” noted Chief Executive Officer of Elektrilevi Mihkel Härm.

“Recently, at an information event targeted towards solar park developers, we learned that there’s a lot of interest in an application that would allow people to easily calculate both the free capacity and the approximate price of connecting in a specific region based on primary input. To everyone’s delight, we can say that such an application is already being developed and in the future those interested will be able to get primary information on the price of connecting and on free capacity significantly quicker and automatically. Interest in renewable energy has exceeded all expectations and in order to ensure future connection capacity and the transition to a green economy, Elektrilevi needs an additional 55 million euros for investments,” Härm added.

Over the last three years, the production capacity of solar power stations in Elektrilevi’s grid has increased more than nine times – from 41 MW to 385 MW.

The distribution of the 1001 connection applications submitted in February is as follows:

  • electricity producers producing over 15 kW: 340 applications with a total capacity of 226.7 MW
  • micro producers, i.e. those producing up to 15 kW: 661 applications with a total capacity of 7.7 MW
  • In February, 253 connection contracts were entered into, including:

  • electricity producers producing over 15 kW: 62 contracts with a total capacity of 49.5 MW
  • micro producers, i.e. those producing up to 15 kW: 191 contracts with a total capacity of 2.1 MW
  • A network connection for 244 electricity producers was finished in February, including:

  • electricity producers producing over 15 kW: 57 producers with a total capacity of 6.5 MW
  • micro producers, i.e. those producing up to 15 kW: 187 producers with a total capacity of 1.9 MW
